28mm Bolt Action CG Rescue Boat....(1/48 Scale Glencoe Rescue Boat)

No there are no rules in the game of Bolt Action for a CG Rescue Boat! I built this boat for my Brother In Law who has a large 28mm domestic battlefield complete with working transport trains...
(He has an O scale Lionel Train layout, but I must tell you I think it would make a cool blue on blue house to house training field for some American Bolt Action guys!)

I have seen this kit kicking around for some years, and always had it in my mind to eventually build one. I did a model airplane kit by Glencoe several years ago, and when I tell you it was a terrible kit, it probably would not even scratch the surface. So when my brother in law sent this to me, he wanted me to build it for his train layout. I hesitated to jump in and must say I procrastinated to the point where it needed to be sent out prior to X-mas. So fire was lit, and I needed to put the kit in a floating setting. I did not know what color his water was on his layout, so I opted to mount the boat to a clear piece of acetate. I used the same technique for making a wake behind and in front of the boat that I did for my containership model (shameless blog cross promotion...).

The picture above shows the wake through the acetate off the white. The boat came with 3 crew, all of which were horribly disfigured with flash and very poor mold lines. I practically hand carved and used filler for all three. The boat was cut off just below the waterline, which was normal freeboard for a boat for this type. While my complaints of the boat are numerous, I will say the parts fit, once cleared of flash, fit well.  I added wood to the bottom deck of the boat since that deck was not mahogany but a lighter teak wood or oak depending on location of the vessel.

While this kit won't set the modeling world afire, I think it might be great for a wargame setting or in this case model rail roads. If you wanted to recreate an early war Battle of Dunkirk, this is a pretty cheap kit to do that! You can find these online for around 9 to 16 bucks. In desperation this boat was known to carry up to 36 people!!! (No gear of course!)

That's it for this week! Let me know what you think!
